We hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing half-term break!
During this term, we will be learning about various topics, including Pancake Day, Easter, spring, people who help us, and children’s interests. If any parents or relatives have a job that helps other people, e.g. nurse, doctor, policeman, etc., and would be willing to come and chat at circle time, please let a member of staff know.
Following on from this, we have arranged a visit to Hollymead Nursing Home (3 Downview Road) on 27th March at 10am for the children to sing to the residents. We would like some parental help with this to ensure safe ratios to walk to and from the nursery. More details will follow soon.
Last term we introduced the ‘Wow Board’. This gives an opportunity for the children to share ‘wow’ moments from home and within the nursery, e.g. riding a bike without any stabilisers, overcoming a personal challenge, etc. Please complete a card if your child has a ‘wow’ moment they would like to share with us.
We have introduced a ‘Mud Kitchen’ in the outside area. If anyone has old utensils, saucepans, colanders, etc. that they could donate, it would be greatly appreciated. We encourage the children to enjoy messy sensory play within the setting as part of the learning environment, so please encourage your child to wear clothing suitable for these sort of experiences, and please pop a spare set of clothing in their bag for messy accidents from water, etc. We always encourage children to wear aprons, however spills can still get on clothing.
Your child’s learning journal is kept in their drawer for you to look at whenever you want to. Approximately every six weeks or so, we will ask you to fill out part of their plan with your child’s keyworker. This will only take about five minutes at the beginning or end of a session. If you have any queries about this please do not hesitate to talk to your child’s keyworker.
Thank you for completing the parent questionnaires. Your feedback has been invaluable and there is still time to return your questionnaire if you haven’t done so already. We have also introduced a comments box for you to complete a slip for any suggestions that will help us to improve, so please feel free to fill one in.
Fundraising Last Term
Last half-term we held the Valentine’s Cake Sale. Thank you to everyone who brought in cakes to sell and those who bought them. Thank you to Matthew Field for donating monies raised from the writing of wills. This has allowed us to purchase another tablet and a bug hotel!
Tues 28th Feb & Thurs 2nd March – Sponsored pancake event
Thurs 2nd March – World Book Day; children may dress up as their favourite character if they wish.
Fri 24th March – We’re having a pyjama day to fundraise for Red Nose Day.
Fruit Snacks & Healthy Eating
We actively promote healthy eating in the nursery in line with schools and the Early Years Foundation Stage. We are asking that if you able to, please could you donate fruit or vegetables for the children to share at snack time, e.g. apples, oranges, bananas, plums, grapes, carrots, cucumber, tomatoes, etc. Many thanks!
